In Part 1 of the book, the authors discuss nongovernmental organizations in light of IR theories, survey the development of NGOs, and highlight their relations with states, international organizations, and international politics overall. The case studies in Part 2 develop the issues outlined in the first part. The concluding chapter both summarizes the main themes presented in the previous chapters and addresses a range of emerging issues.
